The Great Bear Foundation is Sponsoring the Work of Tucker Seitz

December 8th, 2010

The Great Bear Foundation is sponsoring the work of Tucker Seitz, a GBF volunteer and student of wildlife biology at the University of Montana, in his research on field techniques for collecting DNA samples.  Having worked for the NCDE Grizzly Bear project, collecting bear hair samples from rub trees for DNA analysis, Tucker is now researching the degradation of DNA in hair samples when exposed to natural elements over time.  His research will help to determine how often bear hair needs to be collected from sample sites to preserve genetic information.

Non-invasive research methods, like hair snare surveys, are a valuable way to glean information about wildlife populations without subjecting the animals to the stress of capture and handling. Please help support Tucker Seitz’s work.  Your contribution will help to pay the lab fees necessary for his research. See Projects @ Great Bear Foundation
